Hot Wheels Datsun Fairlady 2000 Custom

Got two to share this evening. I've been utilizing my day off to do some painting!! Lots more to come I now have about 25 cars painted and waiting for detailing haha. I'm hoping to get about that many more done to keep me busy over the winter when I can't paint :)

First is another Datsun, the recently released Hot Wheels Fairlady 2000 casting. I really like this one, and was anxious to see how it looked without any racing liveries, just clean. And I like the result!

Hot Wheels Nissan Skyline H/T 2000GT-X Custom

This Nissan Skyline is a great casting. It's only been used a handful of times, but every release has been gorgeous. JDM cars have been enjoying a big spike in popularity within the HW community. I am not a big fan of Japanese cars generally, but I absolutely love the old school Skylines.

The hard to find Boulevard release has never been added to the collection here, so I decided to make my own..

New Diecast Finds April 3rd, 2015

Found some great stuff over the last couple of days, finally. This has been a real slow spell for me, absolutely nothing new in stores for what seems like ages now. The first set of pics was found at Walmart yesterday.

And these next pictures were ebay finds that arrived today. First is a cool vintage Lesney Matchbox puzzle.. Not sure of the history behind it, but it was too cool to pass up! And the rest of the cars were bought in one big lot, and came in at less than $1 each shipped. 

Nissan Xterra - Model of the Day

For today's Model of the Day, we have the lovely 1st-generation Nissan Xterra from Matchbox. This is a very well-done casting from the "Hero City" era of Matchbox, which isn't remembered as an era that gave us a lot of great models.. The Xterra made its debut as #32 in the 2001 1-75 lineup, in the "Sand Blasters" series. 

The Xterra has only been used a handful of times since its release. The example here is an example of the modified version of the casting, which removed the pair of kayaks from the roof. This nice brown truck is from the 2002 "Across America" series, where a car was released for every one of the 50 states. Vehicles were carefully selected to represent each state well, and the Xterra was most likely selected for Tennessee because of the large Nissan manufacturing plant located in the center part of the state. 

This is a great casting, and has lots of nice details when they aren't covered up with tampos. Check out some of the Superfast models if you want to see what this model looks like when done up properly. The Xterra casting really isn't all that plentiful on ebay these days, so I'd hang onto yours if you have one. Maybe I'll get an extra one to customize someday. 

Hot Wheels Datsun 510 Wagon Custom

Here's a quick custom I did of the newly-common Datsun 510 Wagon. I'm so glad this casting made it to the mainline, as I never found the Boulevard version. I'm not a big JDM fan in general, but I do like the older stuff, and this is such a cool car.
I went for a stock look with the Matchbox disc wheels, and a bright orange color that I imagine was pretty common on these cars back in the day.
The front end of the chassis sits a bit high, as it moved out of place as the JB weld set up, and I can't do anything about it now! What do you think of it? What should my next 510 Wagon custom be?

Hot Wheels Nissan Titan Pickup Truck Custom

Well readers, it's getting to be winter time around here, and that means not too many more days for painting outside.. I don't have the facilities to paint indoors, so my customs will be going into "winter mode" soon, aka wheel swaps, minor detailing, etc etc. I've got a bunch of cars disassembled and stripped just in case I get a warm day, but for now... this is about it haha.

This Nissan has been rummaging around in my parts box for years and years. To give you an idea, this version was the 2006 First Editions release, and I bought it on the shelf.. It's been in my parts box for that long haha.

So being that it's cold outside, and I actually like the paint job it has, all I did was a simple wheel swap and some detailing. What do you think?

New Segment: The Travelling Bus

Hello all! I'm sorry for the severe lack of posts lately. It's spring break for me, and I've been extremely busy doing absolutely nothing! But I'm back now, and will hopefully be finishing up some projects this weekend. It's been a relaxing week. Got some flying time in, caught up with the family, it was a good week. Now I'm looking forward to playing with my toys a bit more before classes start back!

I thought it was about time to spice this blog up a bit. As a pilot, I get to go to some pretty cool places, and why not take my little hobby along with me? I chose this old Lesney #5D Routemaster to take with me to some of these cool places and start photographing it. I've seen this sort of thing done before, but I hope to throw my own spin on it. So enjoy! Hopefully I'll be able to start throwing up some interesting pics with the old bus soon!

It rode along with me at work, keeping a close eye on my rev counter.
