"Postflight Briefing" - Finds for the Week January 31st 2015

Hey hey everybody. It's been a pretty good week for diecast finds, much better than last week. So let's dive right in..

First up, a couple of 75 Challenge cars I picked up on ebay for cheap..

Next, two new finds from Walmart, a mainline Lambo and Retro Entertainment Lotus

Another 75 Challenge vehicle that arrived today.

The latest batch of Hot Wheels from Walmart

And last but not least, a lot I won on ebay for a mere $4 shipped. Definitely the best deal of the week!

Hot Wheels BMW E30 M3 Updated!

You might remember this post from a few months back, a delectable E30 M3 finished in a nice metallic black...
E30 M3 Custom

Unfortunately, the paint finished had started to peel, I guess I didn't prime it correctly or something. Being out of that metallic black, I decided to continue the white BMW theme I've been enjoying lately. What do you think?

BMW E21 320i Coupe Alpinweiss Series Custom

Here's two more for the Alpinweiss BMW Series. I'm really on a roll with these, and enjoying making them a lot.
Here is an E21 320i. Some cheap little no name brand, I wish I'd taken some before pics. But it cleaned up really nice! Sharpie work didn't come out too good, you'd think I have the shakes or something haha.

Matchbox BMW E46 328i Coupe Alpinweiss Custom

Here's another one for my developing BMW Alpinweiss custom series. These are a lot of fun to make! I'm pretty sure Matchbox made a white one of these, but it's packed away somewhere so I figured why not make my own. Nothing too special but it did come out nicely.

Hot Wheels BMW E36 M3 Custom

Here is the first custom I've done of this fantastic new casting from Hot Wheels. The first of many I'm sure...
I've decided this will be a continuing theme with my line of customs.. Alpine white BMWs. I love Bimmers in that color, and there are so many great castings from that brand, it seems like a natural fit! I started with the Matchbox BMW 1M, and am continuing with the brand new E36 M3 casting from Hot Wheels. This one was already white from the factory, but I did a bit of overkill with the tampo removal and ended up removing a bit of the paint, and staining the rest. So unfortunately, it still required a complete strip down. But I'm happy with the result, I think it looks fantastic!

Hot Wheels Custom: BMW E30 M3

This is post #1 for this evening. I've been in a rare Hot Wheels mood today, and decided to tackle two of my favorite recent releases, one of them being the E30 M3. What a great car. The original M3 has never been beaten in my mind, up there with the 3.0 CSL and E28 M5 as one of the greatest BMWs of all time. Though I might be a tad bit biased... I much prefer older BMWs to new ones, as is the case with most cars for me. BMW as I know and love it ceased to exist after the E46, E39 and E38 went out of production. When the E65 7 Series was ushered in in 2002, it was the beginning of the end for purists such as myself. But I digress...

I do rather like HWs version of the E92 M3, particularly in that nice metallic black with 10SP wheels. So I decided to recreate it in E30 form. I'm looking forward to doing the same thing with the upcoming Hot Wheels E36...

Unfortunately I didn't let the paint completely cure before setting it on its roof, so the paint there is a little messed up. It is noticeable but I had sealed the car back up with JB Weld before I noticed it! Oops.

Here it is with its older brother. All I need now is an E46 M3 casting, but I don't know of any in 1/64 scale.

Project Wrap Up: Matchbox BMW 323i Cabrio

Project completed! The JB weld in the rivet holes is set, so picture time!

It's not perfect, but I'm very happy with how it came out, especially those nasty foggy windows. If you have any questions or suggestions, please let me know!

New Project: Matchbox BMW 323i Cabrio

Got this one from a friend who was clearing out his childhood collection. I've always liked this casting and wanted to give it a new lease on life. Who doesn't love an E30?

It's looking much better now, I'll have some pics up soon! New wheels, new paint, and the windows defogged.
