Lesney Finds 3/20/16

My fiancee and I went for a drive yesterday and stopped at several antique stores and flea markets. Had a lot of fun looking and walking around! One antique store had recently purchased a Lesney matchbox collection, and surprisingly, had them very reasonable priced! Being mostly mint boxed models, they were still out of my meager budget haha, but I did come home with a couple VERY nice pieces. Only $40 for the pair, which I was more than happy with. Enjoy!

Lesney #24c - Rolls Royce Silver Shadow

Tonight's finished restoration is a #24c Rolle Royce transitional. I was lacking this variation, so per one of my "customizing regs", it got a stock restoration. I'm not completely happy with how it turned out, the trunk lid doesn't fit properly, and the paint has some bubbles in it. I'm not happy with the bleed-through on the wheels either. But it will display nicely! Love the original green baseplate as well.

Matchbox Rolls Royce Silver Cloud Restoration

A little bit of vintage British luxury to class up your evening a bit. This old Roller was picked up on ebay for very cheap, and given a new lease on life!

I've always loved this casting, but never had one until now. I think its new color suits it well, as do the wheels. The wheels weren't my first choice, but I have a pretty limited supply of nice wheels at the moment.. Oh well, I like it.

Mailbox Finds - April 4th 2015

This Lesney lot arrived from ebay-land today. A bit lot of beaters and a few very nice pieces too! Price was about $17 shipped, which I think is a pretty good deal. Here's the beaters.. You'll be seeing quite a few of these again soon! I've got 4 or 5 already taken apart and in the paint stripper..

And here are the minters:

I think $17 would be worth it for the 4 nice cars, so the beaters are a bonus! They absolutely reek of cigarette smoke unfortunately, but I'm still happy with my little lot.

"Postflight Breifing" - Finds for the Week January 17th, 2015

Man oh man what a week it's been! So many great cars have been added to the collection this week. Check it out below...

First up is the latest Hot Wheels batch. Lots of cool stuff here, but the winner is the 599XX. No Super to be found, but I actually think the mainline car is better looking than the TH for once!

Next up is a little package from Japan... What could be inside??

A Kyosho Ferrari! A first for my collection, I'm pumped about it.

These Ferraris come packaged as "kits" due to a weird loophole in Ferrari's copyright contract. But they're very easy to assemble and look amazing once they are. The 456 is one of my favorite modern Ferraris, and the dark blue suits it very well.

Next up is a package I received from a seller on one of the diecast forums. I bought it for the Volvo, as I own a C70 coupe, and that car in diecast form is a tough one to find. A police version is just too cool! And the other cars in the set are nice too.

This was also in the box with the police car set. Missing a car, yes, but it was only $5! Let's take a look at the 8 cars individually.. (The BMW and Merc are my favorites, obviously)

Next up, an error...
Found this little guy lurking at Big Lots, a tampo error. I'm not a big error collector, but I'll grab it if it's a casting I like, just because it's something different. I never saw the point of paying a premium for something that came broken/messed up from the factory.

Next is a small lot of 7 or 8 cars from ebay. Most were complete beaters, but these 3 are worthy of being displayed as is. Look at that Fiat, it's nearly mint!! Hopefully you'll be seeing the beaters reborn soon...

Next up, the latest batch of Matchbox made its appearance at my local Dollar General.. Some nice stuff! It's nice to see the Checker in the lineup again. Once I find some of my old ones, I'll do a comparison between the old one and the new revised casting. The Subaru is ok, and the Runway Wrangler is pretty cool. Not very realistic, but I like it.

And last but not least, this interesting box of cars came today..
A lot of very nice premium diecast, just sans wheels... Look at these babies! Matchbox Premiere, Hot Wheels Garage and Vintage Racing.. Awesome stuff! And for only 50 cents each. I'll be honest, I never liked the Premiere wheels, so I think some well thought-out wheel swaps will make these things look better than new.. (I've already done one, you'll be seeing it soon enough!)

Till next week, happy hunting!
